Bay Area-based entertainment label Town Thizzness and SMC Recordings have reprised their partnership, with Town Thizzness increasing its roster size at the independent label.
The partnership will allow Town Thizzness artists such as J Stalin, D-Lo, Sleepy D andPhilthy Rich a refined platform to promote their music, as well as releases. Both Stalin and D-Lo plan to drop projects this year, with Sleepy D looking at a 2010 release. Philthy Rich, who was featured in the Oakland edition of Gang Wars on the Discovery Channel, recently released his debut album Funk Or Die.
Town Thizzness CEO Chioke “Stretch” McCoy explained the renewed collaboration comes from the fact that both companies are from the Bay Area, and subsequently wanted to showcase the areas rising starts. “Oakland has a lot of talent but not much of a platform to be heard.” He added, “I wanted Oakland’s story to be told by its own natives, because it’s been so misrepresented in the past.”
SMC Recordings co-founder Will Bronson shared the same sentiment, stating, “Town Thizzness is all about keeping its finger on the pulse of what’s happening in the streets of Oakland and delivering it raw and uncut.”

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Town Thizzness jump starts ‘09 with releases from G-Stack and Eddi Projex
New ventures are the latest undertaking by SMC Recordings and Thizz Nation
San Francisco, CA, March 24, 2009 – After last year’s successful releases by Beeda Weeda and J-Stalin, among others, SMC Recordings and Thizz Nation are once again joining forces under the Town Thizzness umbrella to release albums from G-Stack and Eddi Projex. The releases from these two esteemed and eclectic artists are just a preview of all of the exciting new records to come from Town Thizzness in 2009.
G-Stack’s debut album, “Dr. Purp Thumb” has already enticed fans of the bay-area music scene, as well as hip-hop heads everywhere. Although “Dr. Purp Thumb” is G-Stack’s first solo album, he is a veteran of the rap world with over 15 years under his belt with the legendary Oakland-based group, The Delinquents, and a million records sold. The new album is filled with guest appearances by producers like Icon, CMT, The Mekanix, Mike D, Sir Rich & Quinteis, Rob E and Lev Berlak of Richie Rich fame. The first single to hit airwaves is “All you need,” a track with undeniable cross-over appeal, while staying true to the Bay.
“Got the Streets on Fire” is the forthcoming release from Eddi Projex. Also an Oakland, CA native, Eddi learned the ropes of the industry early, while on tour with Digital Underground and Luniz before being even old enough to vote. With comparisons to everyone from Tupac to Young Jeezy, Eddi effortlessly makes socially-aware, gritty tracks that are still radio-friendly. As the self-proclaimed (and undisputable) King of the Oakland underground scene, “Got the Streets on Fire” promises to be a compelling look into the music world that bubbles just below the mainstream surface.
Formed in 2008 by SMC Recordings and Thizz Nation, Town Thizzness has proven to be a dynamite move for the two independent music industry giants. The “town” of Town Thizzness notoriety is Oakland and releases under the Town Thizzness umbrella celebrate artists and projects from the famed city. The release of “Dr. Purp Thumb” and “Got the Streets on Fire” continue in the tradition of excellence put forth by both labels. Although 2009 has only just begun, SMC Recordings and Thizz Nation have proven that Town Thizzness is the best in the business.
Upcoming Town Thizzness releases:
G-Stack – “Dr. Purp Thumb” – out now
Eddi Projex – “Got The Streets On Fire” – March 31st
Live Wire – “The Empire” – April 28th
Philthy Rich – “Fonk or Die” – May 26th
